The Pirate House on Church Street. There is probably no historic backings for the legend, but the locals loved to repeat the tale about this house being a haven for scallywags and ruffians in the 18th century.

The White Point Gardens, the Battery. The monument commemorating the confederate soliders who defended Fort Sumter during the Civil War. The fort, being the site of the first shots announcing the Civil War, was never surrendered by the Confederacy during the war, despite 500+ days of bombardment from the Union.

John C Calhoun's statue on Marion Square, former site of the Citadel, between King Street and Meeting Street. Calhoun, the 7th Vice President of the United States, was a strong proponent of Republicanism, and States' rights. Even though he died before the Civil War, some were inspired by his ideology and used it as the justification for the secession. Legend has it that Calhoun's tomb at St. Philip's church burial ground is empty; his bones were removed during the Civil War to protect them from capture by invading Union forces, and have never been recovered.

Historic house on Church Street in the French Quarter of Charleston

Heyward Washington House on Chruch Street. The house was built for Thomas Heyward, Jr, a signer of the United States Declaration of Independence.

Joseph Manigault House was designed by Gabriel Manigault to be the home of his brother, and was completed in 1790. The house is significant for it was one of the first Adam style architecture, or, what the rest of the world calls the Federal style. In Charleston, the word Federal is avoided when practical. The Manigaults were descendents of French Huguenots, and Joseph was a rich planter, and his brother Gabriel was an architect who also designed the Charleston City Hall

Drayton Hall Plantation. Drayton Hall is the only plantation house on the Ashley River to survive the American Revolution and Civil War intact. Seven generations of Drayton heirs preserved the house in all but original condition.

USS Yorktown (CV-10) The aircraft carrier Yorktown was decommissioned in 1970 and in 1975 became a museum ship at Patriot's Point, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. She is a National Historic Landmark.
